This is the first fully comprehensive gook on this plant group.  It features all 148 species and 15 subspecies. This book will prove invaluable for botanists and gardeners.

Often confused with grevilleas, hakeas are not well know, but these natives are increasing in popularity in the garden as more come into cultivation.  People are becoming more familiar with hakeas and beginning to appreciate their many uses.

Most hakeas are shrubs.  Many bear beautiful flower spikes, followed by large, unusual fruits which are popular in dried flower arrangements.  Aften flowering in winter and early spring, they attract native birds and other wildlife.  Some are fragrant.  They are tough adn easy to grow and will thrive in all sorts of soils and conditions.  For waterwise gardeners, hakeas are a godsend and we canexpect to see many more of them under cultivation in the future.
